2021 — Present

AWinERA Africa Ltd incorporated in Kampala (Reg. No. 80034760362977). First projects launched with IFPRI and AERC on agricultural market systems in Uganda.

2022
Partnership with the World Bank for climate resilience research. NUSAF3 e-Voucher evaluation launched with CEGA and the Government of Uganda.

2023
Coffee and soybean value chain studies in Eastern Uganda completed. CARE Uganda food security assessment and H2-AgroUganda project begin.

2024
NUSAF3 final evaluation published. SOCADIDO livelihood assessment completed. Expanded regional partnerships across Kenya and Tanzania.

Meet the Team
Co-Founder
Dr. Irine Akite
Dr. Irine Akite is the Co-Founder of AWinERA Africa Ltd and a distinguished academic and researcher with extensive expertise in agricultural economics, food systems, and gender-inclusive development. She holds a doctoral degree and is a faculty member at Gulu University, where she has contributed significantly to research on smallholder agriculture, nutrition, and rural livelihoods in Northern Uganda. Dr. Akite brings deep methodological expertise in household surveys, qualitative research, and participatory approaches to evidence generation. Her work at AWinERA focuses on advancing research that empowers women in economic decision-making and strengthens food security across East and Central Africa. She has collaborated with international research institutions and development organisations on multiple high-impact studies that have directly informed national agricultural and nutrition policies.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Tonny Abeka
Tonny Abeka is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of AWinERA Africa Ltd, a leading Ugandan research and consulting firm. With over a decade of experience in economic research, impact evaluation, and development policy, Tonny has positioned AWinERA as a trusted partner for governments, international organisations, and development agencies across Africa. He holds advanced qualifications in economics and public policy, and has led rigorous research programmes spanning agricultural value chains, food security, social protection, and economic inclusion. Tonny is passionate about bridging the gap between evidence and policy — ensuring that high-quality research translates into tangible improvements in the lives of people across Africa. Under his leadership, AWinERA has successfully executed over 14 research and evaluation projects in partnership with institutions including IFPRI, the World Bank, CARE Uganda, and CEGA.
Research Associate
Ochen Ronald
Ochen Ronald is a Research Associate at AWinERA Africa Ltd, bringing strong expertise in quantitative data analysis, economic policy research, and field survey management. He holds a Master of Arts in Economic Policy Management from Makerere University, one of Africa's most prestigious institutions. At AWinERA, Ronald has played a key role in supporting impact evaluations and market research projects across Uganda, contributing to studies on agricultural extension services, price monitoring, and social protection programmes. He is skilled in econometric modelling, statistical software including Stata and R, and has extensive experience coordinating large-scale household data collection exercises in both urban and rural settings across Uganda.
Research Associate
Omongo Samuel
Omongo Samuel is a Research Associate at AWinERA Africa Ltd, specialising in data collection, field research coordination, and programme monitoring and evaluation. He supports AWinERA's research teams in implementing rigorous studies across Uganda and Africa, with a particular focus on agricultural systems, food security assessments, and community-level interventions. Samuel brings hands-on experience in managing field enumerators, conducting key informant interviews, and ensuring data quality across complex multi-site research projects. His dedication to evidence-based development and his deep understanding of local community dynamics make him a valued member of the AWinERA research team.
